Why pH Testing Is Important
pH balance is very important in cosmetic making. Agar product ka pH skin ya hair ke liye suitable na ho, to irritation, dryness, instability, ya preservative failure ka risk ho sakta hai.
For example:
- Facial skincare products are usually kept mildly acidic
- Shampoo and conditioner need suitable pH for hair comfort
- Preservatives often work only within a specific pH range
- Acid-based products require careful pH checking before use
This pH meter helps makers check formulas more confidently before final use.

How to Use
- Remove the protective cap.
- Rinse the electrode with distilled water.
- Gently dry with clean tissue or filter paper.
- Press the ON/OFF button.
- Dip the electrode into the solution to be tested. Do not immerse above the safe immersion line.
- Stir gently and wait around 30 seconds for the reading to stabilize.
- Note the pH reading from the LCD screen.
- After use, rinse the electrode with distilled water.
- Dry gently and replace the protective cap.
Calibration Method
For accurate results, calibrate the meter before important testing.
- Prepare calibration solution by mixing each buffer powder sachet with 250ml distilled water.
- Use separate clean containers for each buffer solution.
- Turn on the pH meter.
- Place the electrode in the pH 6.86 buffer solution.
- Press and hold the CAL button for about 5 seconds.
- Wait until calibration completes.
- Rinse with distilled water before testing another buffer.
- Repeat with pH 4.00 and pH 9.18 if three-point calibration is required.
For general DIY use, pH 6.86 calibration is usually enough. For higher accuracy, use all three buffer points.
Maintenance Tips
- Always rinse the electrode after use.
- Do not store the electrode dirty.
- Do not scratch or touch the sensor tip roughly.
- Always replace the protective cap after use.
- If the electrode becomes dry, soak it in distilled water for a few hours before use.
- Replace the batteries if the display becomes weak, unclear, or unstable.
- Store the meter in its protective case.
Important Safety & Usage Notes
This pH meter is a measuring tool, not a medical device. Results may vary depending on calibration, liquid temperature, sample preparation, and electrode condition.
For cosmetic formulation, always test pH in a properly diluted or fully mixed sample. Thick creams, gels, and emulsions should be tested carefully because very thick textures may not give stable readings directly.
Use distilled water for calibration and cleaning whenever possible.
