About Fixolide

Fixolide is a trade name for AHTN (Acetyl Hexamethyl Tetralin), a polycyclic musk developed in the mid-20th century as part of the family of nitro-free synthetic musks. It is chemically identical to the material sold as Tonalide and became one of the most widely used musks across both fine fragrance and functional product manufacturing.

What makes Fixolide special is its dual personality: a pleasant, clean, powdery musk character combined with serious fixative strength. It rounds rough edges in a formula, lends a velvety drydown, and clings impressively to both skin and textiles, which is why it appears in everything from fine perfumes to laundry products.

Bio Shop Pakistan supplies cosmetic-grade Fixolide suitable for fine fragrance, attar and oriental blending, soaps, detergents, fabric care, and body-care formulations.

Olfactory Profile

SCENT DESCRIPTION: A clean, sweet, powdery musk with a soft, almost floral warmth. It feels smooth and skin-like rather than sharp, wrapping a blend in a comforting veil. There is a faint woody-amber undertone that adds depth without dominating. The overall effect is polished, modern, and effortlessly clean.

Applications & Usage Guidelines

Fine Fragrance ★★★★★
A core modern musk and fixative. It smooths transitions, extends drydown, and adds clean powdery warmth to florals, orientals and fougères.

Attar & Oriental Blending ★★★★☆
Excellent fixative for heavy attar and mukhallat bases. It anchors oud, amber and floral oils while adding a soft, clean lift.

Functional Fragrance ★★★★★
A classic in detergents, fabric softeners and cleaners. Its outstanding substantivity makes it ideal for that lasting laundry-fresh musk effect.

Cosmetics ★★★★☆
Works well in creams, lotions, deodorants and powders for a clean, comforting skin-musk finish at low dosage.

Home Fragrance ★★★☆☆
Usable in candles and diffusers as a fixative; being a solid, it must be fully dissolved into the base first.

IFRA & Usage Rate

EDP : 1 to 10 percent
EDT : 0.5 to 5 percent
Body Lotion : 0.2 to 1 percent
Shampoo/Body Wash: 0.2 to 1 percent
Candle : 1 to 5 percent of fragrance load
Reed Diffuser : 1 to 5 percent of fragrance load
Soap : 0.5 to 2 percent

⚠️ AHTN is subject to IFRA restriction and to regional environmental regulation (persistence concerns). Do not treat the rates above as compliance limits.
⚠️ Verify current IFRA 51st Amendment category limits at ifrafragrance.org before finalizing any formula. In Pakistan IFRA compliance is voluntary, but Gulf and export markets may require it.

Blending Guide

Method 1 — Fixative base: Add at 1 to 5 percent of the concentrate to anchor and extend the entire composition.
Method 2 — Musk accord builder: Combine with other musks to build a layered, rounded musk heart with depth.
Method 3 — Pre-dissolve: As a solid, dissolve fully in alcohol, DPG or carrier before adding to oil or functional bases.

BEST PAIRINGS
Galaxolide → Builds a full, modern clean-musk accord
Iso E Super → Adds transparent woody-amber lift
Hedione → Brings airy, radiant freshness
Ambroxan → Deepens warmth and boosts longevity
Vanillin → Sweet, powdery gourmand drydown

AVOID
✦ Overdosing — high levels can feel flat and overly soapy
✦ Relying on it as a top note — it is purely a base fixative

Perfumer's Note

I reach for Fixolide when a composition needs a clean, dependable backbone that lasts. It is one of those quiet workhorse musks that does not shout but makes everything around it smell more finished, more expensive, and more lasting — equally at home in a fine fragrance or a bar of soap.

ADVANCED TIP: Pre-melt and dissolve Fixolide into a small amount of warm DPG or perfumer's alcohol before blending. Pair it roughly 1:1 with Galaxolide and add a touch of Hedione (around 5 percent of the musk accord) for a transparent, radiant clean-musk that reads modern rather than heavy
