About Florol Firmenich

Florol is a synthetic floral aroma chemical developed and trademarked by Firmenich in the late 1980s. It belongs to the tetrahydropyranol family and was created to capture the fresh, green character of lily of the valley, a flower whose true scent cannot be extracted naturally. The same molecule is sold under other trade names such as Florosa, Floriffol, Florosol, and Pyranol.

What makes Florol special is its rare combination of softness, naturalness, and durability. Many fresh floral materials are fragile and fade or discolour in soaps and detergents, but Florol stays stable and diffusive, making it a dependable building block. It does not dominate a formula — instead it spreads a clean floral lift through the whole composition.

Bio Shop Pakistan supplies cosmetic-grade Florol suitable for fine fragrance, attar and mukhallat blending, cosmetics, soaps, candles, and home fragrance applications.

Olfactory Profile

SCENT DESCRIPTION: Florol opens with a clean, fresh muguet impression that feels soft and natural rather than sharp. Beneath the lily of the valley character sits a gentle green nuance with a light rosy, slightly earthy undertone. It reads as transparent and airy, lending diffusion and lift without a heavy floral weight. The overall effect is delicate, watery, and elegantly fresh.

Applications & Usage Guidelines

Fine Fragrance ★★★★★
A core floraliser for muguet, lilac, freesia, and hyacinth accords. It adds transparent floral diffusion and lift, working from trace levels to overdose without overpowering other notes.

Attar & Oriental Blending ★★★★☆
Brings a fresh, clean floral top-heart to mukhallat and floral attars. Its stability suits oil-based blends and long maceration.

Functional Fragrance ★★★★★
Outstanding in soaps, detergents, and household products where it stays stable and substantive while many floral aldehydes fail.

Cosmetics ★★★★☆
Suitable for creams, lotions, and personal care where a soft, clean floral character is needed.

Home Fragrance ★★★★☆
Performs well in reed diffusers and candles, adding a fresh floral signature with good throw.

IFRA & Usage Rate

EDP : 1–15% of concentrate
EDT : 1–12% of concentrate
Body Lotion : 0.5–3% of concentrate
Shampoo/Body Wash : 0.5–3% of concentrate
Candle : 2–8% of concentrate
Reed Diffuser : 2–8% of concentrate
Soap : 1–5% of concentrate

⚠️ Florol is generally regarded as a stable, low-risk material and is not currently subject to a specific IFRA Standard usage restriction. Always confirm the current status against the latest IFRA Amendment at ifrafragrance.org before finalising a formula.
⚠️ Note: IFRA compliance is voluntary in Pakistan, but following IFRA limits is strongly recommended for export and consumer safety.

Blending Guide

Method 1 — Trace floraliser: Add at 0.5–2% to lift and freshen a heavy floral or oriental base without shifting its character.
Method 2 — Muguet builder: Use at 5–15% as the structural core of a lily of the valley or lilac accord, supported by other florals.
Method 3 — Lilial/Lyral replacement: Substitute into older formulas to restore clean floral diffusion in IFRA-compliant rework.

BEST PAIRINGS
Hydroxycitronellal → Deepens and rounds the muguet character
Lilial alternatives (Lily Aldehyde) → Builds a fuller lily of the valley accord
Linalool → Adds fresh floral brightness and naturalness
Cis-3-Hexenol → Boosts the green, dewy leafy facet
Hedione → Lends radiance, transparency, and diffusion
Bergamot → Adds a fresh citrus floral top lift

AVOID: No major incompatibilities; in very dark or amber bases its delicate freshness can be masked, so dose to purpose.

Perfumer's Note

Florol is one of those quiet workhorses I reach for constantly. It rarely announces itself, yet it makes a floral accord breathe — adding lift and a natural muguet softness without the synthetic edge of older lily materials. Since Lilial and Lyral fell out of use, Florol has become an essential tool for keeping classic florals legal and fresh.

ADVANCED TIP: To rebuild a convincing lily of the valley accord, try a base of Florol 40%, Hydroxycitronellal 25%, Lily Aldehyde 15%, Linalool 10%, and a touch of Cis-3-Hexenol 5% with Indole at trace. Adjust the green and indolic levels last to control how "living" the flower feels.

FAQ

Q: What does Florol smell like?
A: Fresh, soft, natural lily of the valley (muguet) with clean green and lightly rosy facets. It is delicate and diffusive rather than loud.

Q: How much Florol should I use?
A: It works from traces up to about 15% of the concentrate. Start around 1–2% as a floraliser and increase for a full muguet effect.

Q: Is Florol a good replacement for Lilial or Lyral?
A: Yes. It is widely used as a stable, IFRA-friendly alternative to restricted muguet materials, alone or within an accord.

Q: Is Florol stable in soaps and detergents?
A: Very. It holds up well in alkaline and harsh functional bases where many floral aldehydes discolour or fade.

Q: How does Florol compare to natural lily of the valley?
A: Lily of the valley cannot be extracted naturally, so there is no true natural equivalent. Florol is one of the cleanest synthetic ways to recreate that scent.
