Information About Squalane

✅ Key Features

  • Skin-identical lipid (occurs naturally in sebum)
  • Deeply moisturizing without being greasy
  • Restores lipid barrier and smooths skin
  • Enhances penetration of actives
  • Also used in haircare for softness and shine

🔬 Description

Squalene is a naturally occurring unsaturated hydrocarbon lipid found in human sebum, olives, and shark liver oil (Bio Shop™ uses plant-based sources). In cosmetics, it acts as a lightweight, non-comedogenic emollient that hydrates, softens, and restores the lipid barrier of the skin. It offers a silky-smooth feel and helps reduce fine lines, dryness, and flakiness. Compared to its hydrogenated cousin Squalane, Squalene is less stable but delivers excellent antioxidant and skin-repairing benefits in serums, facial oils, lotions, and balms.

Stability and Compatibility

❓ FAQs

Q1: Is Squalene the same as Squalane?

A1: No. Squalene is the unsaturated, natural form — more biologically active but less stable. Squalane is the hydrogenated version with longer shelf life.

Q2: Will Squalene clog pores?

A2: No, it's non-comedogenic and mimics natural skin oils, making it great for acne-prone skin.

Q3: Can Squalene be used on hair?

A3: Yes, it adds softness and shine to dry, frizzy hair without heaviness.

Q4: Is your Squalene plant-based?

A4: Yes, Bio Shop™ offers plant-derived Squalene, not shark-sourced.

Q5: Does it need a preservative?

A5: No, it’s oil-based and does not support microbial growth. However, antioxidants like Vitamin E may be added to extend shelf life.
